Overview

This category of cases includes Ministry of Finance organizations, which regulate everything from taxation and financial services to gaming, as well as the sale of alcohol and cannabis.

Another source of complaints in this area is the Ministry of the Attorney General’s Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee, which handles money and property matters for people who are incapable of doing so for themselves.

The Ombudsman’s systemic investigations in this area have included the fairness of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation’s assessment process and how the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation protects lottery players from theft and fraud. See Investigations and Case Summaries below.
